Want to get organized, be more efficient, and feel happier?
You can learn to be more organized!
Organization is a natural gift to some people, and sadly lacking in others. While there are many people who naturally seem to know how to balance a checkbook, keep a room clean, or straighten up a house all while working full-time, some people are not so lucky. In fact, if you have seen the TV show "Hoarders" then you know exactly what can happen when organization goes out the window. If you are one of those people who does not want to get suffocated when one of your 56 cats pushes a pile of old newspapers onto your easy chair, then organization may be the thing for you.
The key to organizaton is making choices of what to keep and what to throw away. This can be tough if your possessions have too much sentimental value, or if you think you will one day need them, or you think that such items have value. If you're unsure, hold a yard sale and see what people are willing to buy, then you can learn how much of your stuff is not even worth taking off the 25 cent table. This is the stuff you can throw away or donate. Nowadays, there are places that will come to your home and pick up items for donation, and you can even deduct it on your taxes.
Organizing at work is also tough, but essential in an economy where your boss might have to lay somebody off, and have a neat fetish at the same time. If your desk has mountains of information on it, consider a date with the shredder for anything that also exists in electronic format. As always, a secondary backup for this information is essential. You can clear away a lot of wasted space on your desk by shredding unimportant documents, and you can appear to be more organized as well. If you are one of those people who uses handwriting, then file folders may be the way to go.
Organization Tips:
* Arrive at work a few minutes early and clear up just a few things on your desk. This also works if you stay late or take a few minutes of break time, or just do the same thing while you are on the clock.
* Look for things in your home or office area that you have not used in some time and ask yourself if you could do without them.
* Ask one of those OCD organization types for advice! It may surprise you, but some organizers will gladly organize your stuff if you let them, because they (for some reason) get off on making things perfect. There are even some people who enjoy the work and like a challenge, while you still get the credit for organizaton.
* At home, hire a maid. At work, ask for help if you can get assistance keeping your desk clean by finishing up projects.
